Truffle hunt in Norcia
The Norcia black truffle is one of the most refined truffles available in Italy.
This is the best time of the year to pull truffles out from the woodlands and enjoy their taste with some tagliatelle or strangozzi pasta («stringozzi» in the Spoleto dialect, meaning a larger kind of spaghetti made of water and flour).

Moscatelli had to shut down their branch in the center of Norcia following the earthquake, however its Serravalle branch is still open to the public. Serravalle is a particularly enjoyable suburb, that I quite like, positioned on the Corno river where you can go rafting during spring/summer time.
The Moscatelli restaurant offers a good truffle-tasting – you just have to contact them beforehand – and the magic is done in front of a fireplace. Truffle is served there as never before. Why not also take a look around to the cheeses and cold meats on sale? I am eating a tasteful combination of liver and goat cheese right now, just amazing!
Another good reason to visit the Valnerina area in this time of year is the opportunity to enjoy the winter season with snow falling and a magical atmosphere all around; this will also be a good chance to contribute to commercial activities seriously compromised by the earthquake.
